Dear Paris,

Dear Paris:
I’ve dreamed of visiting you my whole life. It’s an overwhelming passion that’s been in my heart for years. When we first arrived in Paris it was a beautiful feeling, driving up to that sign that said “Paris” felt surreal. I’ll never forget that feeling of pure excitement and bliss all at the same time. Stepping out of the bus onto your French streets, looking up at the Eiffel tower “I’m here” was all the words I could say. I couldn’t help but shed a tear of joy. All those times I was unhappy, the thought of Paris made me smile through those rough times. It all lead up to this moment, I am here. Body, mind and spirit. No time felt shorter than those four hours we spend on top of the Eiffel tower. No emotion other than happiness was felt. A dream became reality when we walked along the Seine and shopped on Champs Elysees. Needless to say I enjoyed every moment of you Paris, I feel as though you are a part of me, it’s something we all have. What’s your Paris?

Traditional Chinese Wedding Cake!

You will need…
1 (18 ounce) box yellow cake mix, baked in a 9 x 13 pan
3 eggs (or what your cake mix says)
½ cup oil (or what your cake mix says)
1 cups water (or what your cake mix says)
1 (3.5 ounce) box vanilla instant pudding mix
1.5 cups milk
4 ounces cream cheese
8 -14 ounces crushed pineapple, drained without any juice(use amount desired, more or less to your tastes)
½  container Cool Whip
14 ounces angel flake coconut (or however much you want)

Directions…
After you have baked your cake in a 9x13 pan, allow it to cool completely.
Take a large bowl and combine your milk, pudding mix, and cream cheese.
Cover the pudding mixture and place it in the refrigerator to allow it to chill and thicken.
After the pudding mix has thickened, spread it over the first baked cake to act like a glue to stick the second cake on top.
Take your drained pineapple, and spread it over the pudding mixture.
Next you will take your cool whip and spread it evenly over the pineapple.
To finish, sprinkle a desired amount of coconut over the top, and then place the 12 maraschino cherries in rows of three across the cake.
Cover your cake, and place it in the refrigerator overnight.
Serve and enjoy!

This cake is amazing, and easy to make. I did not put the maraschino cherries on top because I'm going to wait until the day I serve it. It can last up to two weeks in the freezer, but make sure you take it out 24 hours before serving so it can become room temperature.

serious for plaid

These days I feel like time is slipping away. I wake up, and then sooner or later its night and I’m back in bed again to sleep. Once I left high school time started slipping away, but it slipped away for the better because in college all I wanted was to get on to my next phase in life. Well here I am in that next phase, and I’m still unsure of the future. I keep hearing “Your only 21, you’ve got lots of time to figure it out”. I just want to know right. Now. But the beauty of it is that God has our future, he knows what’s going to happen.

The secret to styling daytime is balance. Taking something casual, but dressing it up. Or taking something fancy, and dressing it down. I love the combination of something unusual about an outfit. Plaid reminds me of those jack coats that farmers wear, but plaid can get dressed up as I’m showing here. It can be worn a thousand different ways! How do you wear your plaid??

Traveling diaries: The Netherlands

Before I settled down in London my friend and I took a Top deck tour around Europe. Our group met at the Burns Hotel in London at Earl’s Court. We all said our quick hellos and introductions and made a bee line for the bus to get a good spot. This begins our 6 hour bus trip from London through Calais over to Amsterdam. Get comfy with the bus because this tour has a lot of driving. In Canada it takes about 9-11 hours to drive from my home in the Fraser Valley to Edmonton or Calgary. In Europe you can go from one end of the country in Amsterdam all the way to Munich the other end of Germany and be there in 8 hours and 8 minutes in the current traffic at 10 pm CET. (not that I googled) Speaking from a Canadian’s point of view to be in another country in the same amount of time is INSANE! The EU is extremely fortunate to be that close. Anyways back to my trip, we drove to Dover in Kent hopped on a ferry to Calais then drove to Amsterdam. Amsterdam is a great city, this is my second time being there and it was just as wonderful as the first. It was familiar which was nice to have that feeling.
Amsterdam's street food is a must for any foodie. Of course when you’re in the Netherlands you cannot leave without trying their amazing fries and mayo!  Another food that they do well is waffles. We picked up some packaged stroopwafels and they were delish. It is a yummy dessert made of two baked dough layers with caramel syrup filling in the middle.

Being a tacky tourist is a lot of fun, asking for directions all the time and doing all the main attractions. If you love flowers you have to check out the flower market, the tulips are gorgeous and are as little as €5.00 for 50 tulips, what a steal. (If you live there, or close by) Other main attractions include the traveling iamsterdam letters, Anne Frank house (I extremely recommend this!), Van Gogh Museum (or any museum for that matter, there are some gooders!), and vintage markets.
My number one recommendation is to get lost traveling the canals (don’t physically “get lost”, because if you’re not from there it’s not fun getting lost) but take your time walking or boating on the canal. Amsterdam has some great architecture so explore some of the churches. The shopping is also fantastic in Amsterdam, so don’t skip on that. Pictured below is the Magna Plaza, a must for any fashion lover.

My top tip for Amsterdam has to do with biking. Take a bike ride; it’s their number one form of transportation in the Netherlands. Be aware of the bikers if you’re not on one, you’re probably more likely to get run over by a bike than car, or train in my opinion!
Have you been to Amsterdam, or any city in the Netherlands? What are your tips for seeing the city? Leave a comment
