What does style mean to me?

To me style is a personal journey, it speaks your personality and who you are. Two years ago my style was completely different than what it is today. I was the girl that wore 4 inch heels to school, with an outfit that was way over the top for daylight (Im exaggerating). When I look back on this I realize how impractical that was, but I say that with a different mindset now. My style is much more laid back, than that little girl running through Vancouver in heels. When I was in London last year, everyone wore sneakers! Men, women, children of all ages, it was an infatuation. Seeing how put together everyone looked while being so casual was foreign to me, but something I wanted to accomplish with my own style. 

Having your own style means confidence. Everyone’s clothing choices take work, it shows your making an effort with your life. Style tells a story of who you are, but it does not completely define you! I was taking the skytrain in Vancouver, and I noticed this man sitting down, jet black hair with earrings in every possible place. When we got to the next stop, an older lady came in, the man with the black hair jumped up immediately, faster than anybody else and offered her his seat. My mouth dropped, I had completely judged him based on his clothing choices. God really changed my perspective. Style sets you apart, and gives you a spring in your step. You can wake up feeling lousy, but leave your house feeling beautiful. Just remember that no one can make you feel inferior about your clothing choices. My style is may be different from yours and thats okay. It does not make either one of us better than each other, just different. 

Simplicity.

 Simplicity. To simplify your life, your wardrobe, and your house is incredibly hard. Coming from North America, the more you have the better your life. The “I want’s” and “I needs” are very powerful. This past summer I got rid of everything, and I mean everything! I only kept staple pieces, and a few of my favourite items. I sent about two tubs of clothing, and a garbage bag full to goodwill. I thought, “Why do I need any of this, it’s weighing me down”. My style is changing all the time, and the more I get older the more I want quality over quantity. When I was in fashion school I wore every item in my closet twice. No more, sometimes only once. Today I think that theory is crazy. Style is always changing, and I love the classic, simple pieces. No more trying to match my pink dress with my pink blazer or “black is boring”. Simplicity.

Lately I have been obsessed with cacti, and succulents. I don’t remember when this obsession started, but I just can’t get enough of them. If you want to see some amazing cacti visit yesterday’s post where I went through the Muttart Conservatory, they have some amazing plants! When I saw this shirt it was love at first sight, I could think of 10 ways to wear this wonderful piece. Has anyone been star-struck by an amazing garment? I chose these boyfriend green jeans with this top to tie in the green, and then to add some edge of course I had to add the leather jacket. I have been loving this one from Reitman’s I got a couple months ago! Who else is just as obsessed with succulents?!

 Happy May long weekend! I hope everyone is enjoying their extra holiday Monday! For those of you from other countries today is a holiday in Canada. It called Victoria day, everyone tends to go camping, or spends their time close to a lake. I am so sorry I have been away for so long, but I took a little holiday. You’ll find out where I went and everything I did in tomorrows blog post, so get excited for #traveltuesday! This pictures were taken in a beautiful location; the Chilliwack lake area. My town has such beautiful mountains and lakes! Onto the outfit! I took this gold skirt and paired it with an army green tee for a casual vibe, then dressed it up with a leather jacket and cheetah heels. It’s unexpected, but I love taking the unexpected and making it look cool. It amazing what you can do dressy items/casual items! What is an unexpected piece in your wardrobe?  Quick hello today! I hope everyone is super fantastic! I’m actually headed off someplace exciting today. As it is Mother’s day this weekend, my mom and I are going to visit my grandma so we can both be with our mom’s! I’ll give you a couple hints as to where we are going: 1. It’s an hour flying time/ 10 hours driving from where I live, 2. They are very proud of their AAA beef, 3. This province does have mountains, but none where we are going. Any ideas? A little colour never hurt anyone right? When i’m styling an outfit I always tend to reach towards anything black, It’s always a safe pick for me. While I was in Paris last summer I picked up this blazer in H&M, it caught my attention right away! I couldn’t get over this magnificent print, and it has been a staple in my wardrobe ever since. It’s a great piece to add life and colour to an outfit! Here I’m wearing it casual with a simple tee and Vans, but you can definitely dress it up. Super versatile! Denim Days

 Lately I’ve been seeing head to toe denim everywhere, and it’s time I put my own stamp onto this trending trend. I have not always been a fan of wearing jeans; I find them sometimes to be extremely uncomfortable and painful around my hips. But not anymore! Fit, stretch ability, and ink colour are important things I look for in a good pair of jeans. Here are a few tips I’ve learned over all my denim days.

1. Colour, and stressing matters. One time I tried on a pair of light washed jeans and they made my thighs, hips, and bum look a lot bigger than what they were.  I try to stick to darker blue jeans, with a tiny big of distressing. But key fact: watch where the stressing is! If you tend not to like your upper thighs find try to find a jean with stressing in the middle, or the knee and vice versa.

2. You will vary in size from store to store “Vanity sizing”. Normally I’m a 28 or 29 depending on the store, but these Marc by Marc jeans I’m wearing are a size 27. The 28 fit me perfectly, but like our mothers always say “jeans will expand”, so I took the 27. Some stores will higher or lower the sizing.

3. Sit down in your jeans before you buy! This is a top tip for me because some jeans I’ve tried on tend to dig into my waist, but then they gap in the back. I always stick to jeans that are high waisted, not so I can wear them like a high waisted pant but so the jeans don’t slide down, or rub me the wrong way. Low rise jeans absolutely don’t work with my body type.

4. Do the jean dirty work! If you’re lucky and find the perfect pair/fit in the first store, amazing! But for me, it takes a while! Each store has different cuts, colours, and washes. As much as I love a good designer jean because it’s the one thing I splurge on, sometimes you can find a pair just as good under $50. I found a pair of boyfriend jeans at Old Navy that I absolutely adore! They have an excellent variety, and their sizing goes up to 20. Insider tip: J brand and Jessica Simpson jeans are exactly the same fit! Of course the style and colours are different but fit stays the same!

5. Jeans to long? Just hem! Short people don’t have so stick with the “short” sizes! I find tall jeans fit me better.
